About Us

Neurodiversity A Spectrum Design For Autism is a piece of digital
artwork by Shannon Nelson Art which was uploaded on
October 6th, 2021.

Neurodiversity is a concept that recognizes the natural variation in human brain function and behavior. It encompasses a wide range of neurotypes, including but not limited to autism, ADHD, dyslexia, Tourette syndrome, and many others. While it's often described as a spectrum, this is a simplification of the complex reality of neurodiversity.

In reality, neurodiversity is a multidimensional space with many different dimensions, such as sensory processing, social communication, executive function, and others. Within each of these dimensions, there is a great deal of variation between individuals, and each person's profile is unique. All individuals, including those who are neurodivergent, require varying levels and types of support in order to accomplish their goals.

The Virtual Global Neurodiverse Symposium 2023 is a platform for experts to share their insights and expertise in various fields, such as Functional Medicine, Education, Communication, Brain Development, and Workforce. Its primary aim is to empower parents, caregivers, and professionals with knowledge and resources that can support neurodiverse individuals in achieving independent and functional lives.

Join the Virtual Global Symposium featuring world-renowned speakers, as well as bonus presentations and giveaways. Your registration not only grants you access to the event, but also includes membership to the AAF Neurodiversity Community platform, allowing you to connect with experts and fellow parents, seek advice from specialists, and stay informed about the current resources.

Manisha Lad

Host, Executive Director, Akhil Autism Foundation

Holistic Health Coach Parent Advisor/Coach Neurodiverse community
My journey started as an Information Technology consultant and worked in the field with leading companies like Siebel Systems, Metlife, UBS bank in Tokyo. 2001 I decided to quit my career when our only son Akhil Lad was diagnosed with AUTISM.

Since then I educated myself to become an Holistic Health Coach and our education and treatment with Akhil changed our perspective of AUTISM from Behavior to Biomedical and NeuroSensory Motor disorder.

Our son Akhil Lad is now an adult though minimally speaking is taking Associate Science Degree with Rowan College of South Jersey. He also inspired us to start Akhil Autism Foundation.

I coach parents to get started on Autism Journey and understand them different puzzle pieces with right resources.

Elizabeth Bonker

Host, Executive Director of Communication 4 ALL, Non-Speaking Individual with Autism

Her Valedictorian Commencement Address from Rollins College went viral with 4 billion impressions worldwide propelling her mission: Communication 4 ALL. Google, Microsoft, Rotary International, and other organizations reached out to her to find out how they could help the estimated 31 million people with autism who cannot use speech for communication. Mentored by International Disability Rights Advocate Judy Heumann, Elizabeth seeks to change the way the world sees non-speakers with autism. Elizabeth is the Executive Director of the nonprofit Communication 4 ALL and a member of Autism Society of America’s Council of Autistic Advisors. Elizabeth will use text-to-speech software to tell you about her journey, her album, and her plans to enable access to communication for ALL non-speakers.

Host, Podcast & Audiobook Producer

Brett Wilson is a writer, musician, music, podcast & audiobook producer, and host of various shows, including Ridin’ for the Brand at Sylvan Dale Guest Ranch, the Akhil Autism Foundation podcast, and the Rocky Mountain Channel podcast, along with his own – Mountan Zen Den podcast where he has had the privilege of interviewing some of the most fascinating people on the planet.
In the 90’s he managed Sound Revolutions, a bustling studio in Nashville, learning the ins and outs of the music and recording business. As the Owner and Creative Director of SkyDance Mountain, where he helps produce world-class podcasts and audiobooks in his Colorado studio. Along with all the responsibilities that come with audiobooks and podcasting — including meeting with clients, scheduling interviews, and writing and developing story ideas — ProTools and its plug-ins are a regular part of his workday.

Brett shares, “The thing I love most about what I do is meeting new people, and finding and telling a good story.

Apparently born with a natural curiosity, I find great joy in getting to know the folks I meet and interview on a deeper level. The story within the story if you will. The one that makes people sit up and take notice. The one that brings a little more hope, inspiration, imagination and especially transformation.”

He enjoys being in conversation with God the Creator, spending time with his family, hiking, the sound of horse hooves on the trail, and anything that has to do with Nature and enjoying time outdoors. He explains, “I believe the most important thing I can be doing at any given moment is to grow into becoming the best version of myself.”

Dr. Susan Crawford

Dr Susan Crawford is an Autism and Movement Impairment Consultant living in Co. Clare on the West Coast of Ireland. She is the proud mother of her 27 yr. old autistic son Tomás. After Tomás was diagnosed at the age of two, Susan undertook her PhD exploring autism and motor impairment programme development and planning. It was the first study of its kind in Ireland. She went on to work as a researcher and lecturer in University College Cork for many years with particular emphasis on addressing autistic motor impairment in community across the lifespan. She set up her own consultancy in 2019, due to ongoing demand from parents, teachers and practitioners for help in supporting autistic children and adults. Susan has developed the GetAutismActive Resource Kit and online programme www.getautismactive.com which teaches parents, teachers and practitioners how to develop the key regulating skills of movement for autistic children and adults. Susan has found that optimising skills of running, catching, jumping, balance and coordination has positively impacted the lives of autistic participants, families and greater communities. Autistic participants have gone on to join mainstream events, sports and clubs and achieve better outcomes, especially in general feelings of health and wellbeing, social skills, language and communication. Susan has addressed audiences and is published all over the world. She is proud to say Ireland is leading on rolling out the GetAutismActive programme and further promoting inclusion of autistic participants. Together with Tomás her son, they have run, hiked and climbed all over the world and are currently training for The New York Marathon. Susan was the recent recipient of “Clare Person of the Year Award” for her contribution to the world of autism and despite many academic accolades and awards, says this was the ultimate one “to be recognised by my own community”. She accepted it on behalf of and dedicated it to Tomás. Susan has just been appointed to lead autism awareness training across the County to all homes, community groups and businesses where she lives as part of the Clare County Council “Autism Aware in Clare” initiative. Conference presentation title:

The “GetAutismActive “Programme: providing the solution for autistic children and adults to achieve regulated health and wellbeing through learning quality movement skills: “I have never met an autistic participant who could not learn”.

Soma Mukhopadhyay

Soma Mukhopadhyay lived in India until 2001, home schooling her autistic son Tito Rajarshi Mukhopadhyay, teaching him how to spell on a type - writer (later a computer) and hand write independently, since speech - communication was not easy for Tito. Soma and Tito were featured in a BBC Documentary "Tito's Story". By then Tito aged 11 had already hand-written a book "Beyond the Silence" which was published by the National Autistic Society (UK).

The Cure Autism Now Foundation invited Tito and Soma to the USA after they watched the BBC documentary and the parent members of the organization asked Soma to try her teaching method on their children. The success of her teaching technique on 7 non-speaking and 2 selectively speaking students with autism earned her a fellowship to implement her technique with other students in Los Angeles. Her work was featured in the ‘60 Minutes’ program and Soma’s technique began to be called the Rapid Prompting Method (RPM).

The popularity of RPM began to grow and HALO offered Soma a full time work environment. Soma continues to offer her services by offering camps, workshops and training for teachers and parents.

Soma and Tito are featured in the BBC documentary - ‘Tito’s Story’, 60 Minutes, CNN, the HBO documentary -‘A Mother’s Courage’, the National Geographic Magazine, the Scientific American, People Magazine, the New York Times and the Austin American Statesman.

Soma has a B.S. in Chemistry (honors), M.S. (Inorganic Chemistry), and B.Ed.

She is on the Advisory Board of ‘Talk School’, Pennsylvania.
